How to play

Move the whole board in one direction. Two equal tiles that meet become one tile worth twice as much. Keep space open while you build larger numbers.

Small moves, bigger numbers

A new tile appears after a move changes the board. Your score grows by the value of each merged tile. A move that changes nothing does not add a tile.

Choose your board

Start with the classic 4×4 grid, or try 5×5, 6×6 and 8×8. Cupcake mode changes the tile art while keeping the number rules. Practice adds undo.

What does unblocked mean here?

The game runs directly in a browser without a download. Availability depends on your network settings; this site cannot guarantee access on school or workplace networks.

Can I keep playing after 2048?

Yes. Choose Keep playing after reaching the target. The board can continue until no valid moves remain or you start a new game.

Free online 2048 on a classic 4×4 board

This number puzzle starts with two tiles. Merge 2 and 2 to make 4, then combine equal values through 8, 16, 32 and beyond. The target is a tile worth 2048; your score is a separate total of the values you create. Read the 2048 rules and scoring examples if you are new to the game.

The game uses browser controls without Flash or an extension. Focus the board for arrow keys or WASD; on a phone, swipe on the board or tap its direction buttons. Optional saved games need functional storage permission in Cookie Settings.

An easier way to learn 2048

Playing beyond 2048

Keep playing lets you build 4096, 8192 and higher values on the same board. This is continued play, not an infinite grid: the number of cells stays fixed and a full board with no equal neighboring tiles ends the game. The implementation also has a finite maximum tile value, so it is not literally unlimited.

Controls or saved game not working?

• Arrow keys scroll the page: click the board or tab to it before pressing an arrow. The visible direction buttons also work.
• A move does nothing: that direction may leave every tile in place. Try another direction; an unchanged move does not add a new tile.
• Your game did not resume: open Cookie Settings in the footer and allow functional storage. Use the same browser and device; private browsing or cleared site data can remove saves.
• A swipe scrolls instead: begin the gesture inside the board, or use its direction buttons.
